Definition of endodontics

Endodontics (endo = inside, odonte = tooth) is a speciality that treats all pathologies related to the inside of the tooth. The roots of all teeth contain channels, like little tunnels, in which the dental pulp is located.

When should endodontic treatment be performed?

Endodontic treatment is carried out when a cavity reaches the nerve, the pain felt is extremely strong. To relieve the patient, the nerve must be removed from the tooth and the roots disinfected.

Why perform endodontic treatment?

When the pulp becomes inflamed or infected.
Inflammation and infection canhavemany causes: caries, repeated dental treatments on the same tooth or a tooth crack or fracture. Trauma can also cause pulp damage even if the tooth has no visible signs of fracture.

If the inflamed or infected pulp is not treated, it can cause pain or lead to an abscess.
